Vietnam posts $4bln trade surplus in six months despite public health crisis (1/7/2020)
Despite travel bans from several countries that affected trade activities, Vietnam reported a trade surplus of $4 billion during the first half of this year, General Statistics Office said.

In the first 6 months of 2020, total import and export revenue reached $238.4 billion, down 2.1% compared to the same period last year.

Export revenue of domestic economic sector reached $41.38 billion, up 11.7%, accounting for 34.1% of total export turnover. FDI sector’s exports reached $79.83 billion, down 6.7%, accounting for 65.9% of total exports.

In the reported period, there were 22 items with export turnover of over $1 billion, accounting for 86.2% of total export turnover. In particular, there are 4 items having export revenue of over $10 billion, accounting for 52.7% of total export turnover.

In the 6 months, Vietnam imported $117.17 billion, down 3% compared to the same period last year. The country also has 22 imported products with a value of over $1 billion, accounting for 81.2% of total import turnover.

Despite the successful containment in domestic, Vietnams foreign trade activities continue to face difficulties due to the negative impacts of the pandemic on its major trade partners including EU, US, Japan, ASEAN.
